Unprecedented scenes on the Tour de France today. There was some outstanding racing action on the penultimate climb of the day over the Col de l'Iseran which saw Egan Bernal attack strongly and put himself into the virtual yellow jersey on the road. Mother Nature then played the next card with a flash blizzard causing a landslide which saw tonnes of mud and ice cover the road at the bottom of the descent. Despite frantic and ultimately fruitless efforts to clear the road, the race organisers had no alternative but to abandon the finish of the race.
In the end, the decision was made to halt the race as at the top of the Col de l'Iseran, and no stage classifications were awarded.
However, the General Classification was set from the summit, which means Egan Bernal is now the new race leader.
